AUSTIN ADORABLE DIVAS
MEETING OF THE COUNCIL OF QUEENS
Wednesday, July 21, 2004; Berryhill Baja Restaurant

Queens Present:
Barbara Combs (THE Birthday Girl!)
Linda Cline
Sarah Lawson
Bobbie Mabry
Mary Ellen Magnuson

Queens Absent and Missed:
Kathie French-Todd
Marie Holman
1. Luncheon Reservations: Bobbie reported that the volume of telephone reservations is picking up. Linda graciously volunteered to handle telephone calls where there is no email available to those wishing to reserve for a luncheon. We will note that on the website - Linda’s home phone, but emphasizing that email reservations are still the preferred way to reserve.

2. Celebrating Barbara’s Birthday: Barbara opened her birthday presents and we all had a lot of good laughs over her cards.

3. Surprise from Mary Ellen: Mary Ellen fulfilled her promise of the March Special Meeting at Burger Tex and presented each of us with a packet of RHS Diva business cards. She also gifted each Council member with a darling red hat pin with our names on it. We are all excited to wear them, which will designate us as Council members, to the next luncheon that we each attend. Thank you so much, Mary Ellen, for your thoughtfulness!!

4. Bobbie reported on the First Ever Divas Do Happy Hour (DDHH). There was a problem sending the announcement out, as 29 emails came back undeliverable and after several tries, Bobbie had to send those ladies an email telling them to go to the website for details of this upcoming even. Most all of the 29 were AOL accounts, but it is suspected that the "DDHH" might have been something to kick them back. Therefore, in the future, the announcements will only say Divas Do Happy Hour or just Happy Hour. The website can still have the catchy phrase. It was unanimously decided by the 9 ladies in attendance that the next Happy Hour will be held on Wednesday, August 18th. This will have to be moved to August 11th as the Diva Council meeting is on the 18th and until this gets off the ground solidly, a Council member should be in attendance. Wednesday evenings seemed to have more appeal to the ladies who came. August will be held again at Iron Cactus North but we should be open to other venues who will serve 1/2 price appetizers and drink specials for upcoming Happy Hours. The 9 ladies who came seemed to enjoy themselves.

5 . “Newbies”: From now on, when a new person reserves for a luncheon, Bobbie will send the information on that lady, name, telephone number, etc., to Linda and she will call that person to welcome them and help them feel at home before they come to the big gathering and possibly get lost in the shuffle. Thanks, Linda, for volunteering to do that.

6 . Important: Whoever is hosting the monthly luncheon each month needs to remember to recognize ladies with birthdays that month and to recognize all first time attendees, by asking them to stand; also guests of members.

7 . Upcoming Luncheons (through 2004):

August - Queen Barbara - Berryhill Baja Grill. Barbara will try to contact Anna Lunoff, friend of San Antonio Ramblin’ Rubies Queen Peggy Berry to bring her red hat merchandise to the Diva’s August luncheon for display/purchase. Luncheon charge will be $16.00.

September: Queen Barbara - Holiday Inn. Barbara will contact Sarah of Gift Solutions for a Trunk Show.

October: Queen Sarah - Location to be determined. Theme: Tacky Party (in honor of Halloween being right around the corner). Anything mismatching, awful is the dress for the day. Dress as tacky as you can.

November: Possibly Queen Barbara? Nothing special planned - we’ll take a breather! Barbara will contact Romeo’s on Barton Springs for a relaxed luncheon.

December: Queen Linda - Iron Cactus North. Theme: Elegant Dress - on Saturday, December 18th. All ladies will be encouraged to dress to the nines!

8 . Luncheon Handouts: Upcoming Events handouts for Luncheons: Linda will put together a handout for this Saturday’s luncheon, email to Bobbie for runoff and she will bring to luncheon.

9 . Services Directory: Where are we on this project, Marie? Any responses? Do we need to republicize, drop, or????

10 . Enjoying: The meeting was wrapped up as we shared a huge piece of Tres Leches cake, supplied by the restaurant. Yum!

NEXT MEETING OF THE COUNCIL OF THE QUEENS:
